Q&A With Katelyn Scroggins, Dispatch & Logistics Manager for Cycla

Katelyn Scroggins, Dispatch and Logistics Manager

How did your journey to Cycla begin?

A little over 11 years ago I graduated from Carroll University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and joined Americorp Vista as a recycling coordinator for the Habitat for Humanity of Milwaukee Restore. I worked with numerous recycling companies to identify new ways to recycle donations, such as  cardboard, non-working electronics, Christmas lights, clothing and broken household items, that weren’t eligible for resale in the store.

At the time, Habitat for Humanity managed bins for clothing and household goods throughout Milwaukee and partnered with organizations, including Cycla. This is when I discovered Cycla and became passionate about the work the company was doing.

What was your first job at Cyla?

I was fortunate enough to join Cycla in 2013 as a warehouse manager. The job brought new experiences and the opportunity to learn new skills like driving a box truck, operating a forklift, loading semi-trailers and running a baling machine. I learned a lot my first year and even though it wasn’t a job I imagined myself doing, I was actually very good at warehouse management.

What is your current role at Cycla?

I’ve continued my adventure with Cycla, learning about new aspects of the business and expanding my career opportunities along the way. In 2016 I was promoted to managing dispatch and logistics. I had mastered loading the semi-trailers, but scheduling and logistics were part of the process I was eager to learn.

In the years since, I’ve expanded my knowledge with hands-on experience, working with freight brokers and taking courses from Transportation Intermediaries. Today I coordinate freight in and out of the U.S. for numerous thrift stores around the country. I love what I do and I’m eager to see what the future holds.
